VeilStream Mid-Year Product Update

We have shipped some major improvements to VeilStream during the first half of the year. These improvements make it easier than ever to create production-like preview environments for every branch while also providing the power and flexibility needed by enterprises.

Start for free

Every VeilStream account now includes the first $20 of usage free, with no credit card required. Teams can connect a project, deploy preview environments, and evaluate the platform before paying anything. Beyond that, pricing is based on usage, so you only pay for what you use.

Instantly fork databases

Teams can now create read/write database forks almost instantly with all sanitization rules applied to filter or anonymize sensitive data. This functionality combines the new Postgres 18 Copy-on-Write (CoW) functionality with the VeilStream proxy server. Each preview environment can work with its own isolated database while retaining production-like structure and data.

Developers and AI coding agents can safely modify records and evaluate application behaviour without affecting production or a shared staging database or accessing sensitive data.

Choose where your environments run

All users can now deploy their environments to either:

• A US West Coast data centre
• A Canadian East Coast data centre

This gives teams greater control over data residency, latency, and where their development infrastructure is hosted.

Automatically record end-to-end walkthroughs

VeilStream can now automatically create video recordings of automated user interface tests to document changes you make to your applications. These recordings make it easier to review changes, document functionality, and share a branch with teammates without requiring everyone to navigate the application themselves.

When using an AI coding agent, you can ask the agent to build a feature, deploy to a VeilStream environment, and report back to you with a link to a recorded walkthrough.

QMax integration

Our new QMax integration expands the ways teams can incorporate VeilStream environments into their development and testing workflows. QMax is an automated testing platform that allows teams to use AI to automatically generate and run tests.

Custom domains

Preview environments can now be accessed through custom domains, making it easier to provide polished, recognizable URLs to customers, stakeholders, and internal reviewers.

Full support for multi-repository projects

VeilStream now supports applications whose services are distributed across multiple repositories. Teams can combine front ends, back ends, workers, APIs, and supporting services into a single preview environment, even when each component has its own repository and development lifecycle.

Docker Compose is now optional for simple projects

Simple applications no longer require a Docker Compose file.

Single-service Node.js applications, static HTML websites, and other straightforward projects can now be deployed directly from a GitHub repository without needing a Docker Compose file. Docker Compose remains available for applications that need multiple services or more control over their environment but no VeilStream specific configuration is required. If it works on localhost, it works on VeilStream.

What’s next

These updates bring us closer to our goal: making production-like preview environments as easy to create as a Git branch. Whether code is written by a developer or an AI coding agent, every change should be testable in an isolated, realistic environment before it reaches production.
